I scrape out ~1 tsp, roll it into a ball with my fingertips, and apply it directly under my armpits, where it melts and soaks in. In the summer, I'll keep the jar of deodorant in the fridge, since coconut oil liquefies at 76 F. Some people transfer the deodorant to an old anti-perspirant tube to make application easier.
This DIY deodorant & aluminum free antiperspirant is the greatest deodorant/antiperspirant I have ever used. It also helps the deodorant glide on. As well as smelling nice, some essential oils are said to have antibacterial properties too. I am off to dig some clay from the bottom of my yard to apply to my husband's foot.
BThis can easily be doubled if you have more than one container to fill./bbrbrDon't make the mistake that I did this past time of shaking essential oil bottles with poorly fitting droppers directly over your pot of ingredients. The night before we used the deodorant we applied the clay just mixed with apple cider vinegar to make a paste all around the under arm area to get a detoxed clean start. Petrolatum is the second reason we should be using natural deodorant using essential oils and not store bought deodorants. Keep the spray in the refrigerator (when we traveled with it, we noticed it was less effective after 2 weeks of room temp). With its refreshing minty scent and powerful antibacterial properties, peppermint essential oil is a perfect complement to homemade cleaning products.

printed this recipe out and I'm gonna try it. For years I tried several Natural Deo" on the market and none of them worked, except the ‘Crystal deodorant', it comes in a stick form, wet it and apply. Other potential candidates include lavender, cypress, sandalwood, citronella, myrtle or tea tree oil. The skin's pH is roughly 5 (acidic) while baking soda's pH is over 8 (alkaline).
I tried a different recipe for homemade deodorant this time, and liked it even better than the first batch I had made. DIY Super Strength Deodorant Spray: 1 fl. oz. witch hazel, 1/2 flower water hydrosol, 1/2 fl. oz. colloidal silver, 20 drops essential oils, 10 drops grapefruit seed extract. May I add that I have empty roll up type deodorant containers but wonder if this recipe would be too smushy

I went baby steps on the coconut oil, too, buying a small container to try it out first, and now I'm a believer. To Use: Scoop a small amount of deodorant from the jar and apply to your armpits. I wonder if beeswax added would help at warm temperatures, as one commenter asked. If you prefer a smoother and more oily lip chap, you can reduce the amount of beeswax." I purchased a liquid form (like baby oil consistency) from the natural section of my grocery store…but then at another store I saw a jar of it that was more of a solid. Also, if you have sensitive skin, Meow Meow Tweet offers a grapefruit-scented option that is baking soda-free (a potential underarm irritant). I really started to look into zinc for deodorants, though, when I noticed that zinc ricinoleate, a zinc salt that I had bought to prevent acne in a homemade facial cream, was also sold as a deodorant additive. Arm & Hammer doesn't work well, photo is just an example of where to pour your homemade deodorant.
Maybe if you wanted to use it in a deodorant stick then you would have to either keep it in the refrigerator or add a little (like 1 tbsp) of if you don't like beeswax, then follow this recipe to the dot and enjoy the benefits! Just keep in mind that the deodorant may cause a burning sensation for 5-10 minutes because of the vodka.
I do still have wet armpits sometimes, but no smell whatsoever and I like that I know exactly what is in it and that I can use what I've got to make it work for me. I may try the shea butter next go-around as we're all out, because down here in FL it is SOOO hot that my entire bottle of coconut oil is liquid and I noticed my stick of deodorant was leaking a little the other day.
